本国スウェーデンから「Easter（イースター）」のレターが届きました！
In Sweden, Easter began to be celebrated during the 12th century. Easter has grown out of Christianity and is one of its most important holidays. For Christians, Easter is about being reminded of the suffering, death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. Sweden is one of the less religious countries but still Easter is an important tradition even if very few of us although very few of us attend any church service. But as late as 1970s the Friday, Good Friday before Easter Saturday every shop was closed, and you were expected to do nothing.
Until one hundred years ago the month before Easter was the end of a one month long fast. The celebration after the fast was a feast with lots to eat. Egg and meat in salmon and pickled herring. In fact very much like the Swedish traditional Christmas dinner except for the ham and more focus on eggs.
On Thursday before Easter according to old Swedish folklore the witches according to tradition flies on a broom to Blåkulla. This manifests today where children dresses up like witches, walk from house to house and begs for candy. Quite far from the old says.
In our family I start by taking in some branches from birch about 10 days before the Easter week, put in a was and have the leaves budding in light green. Then we hang painted blown eggs and colored feathers to make it colorful to celebrate spring.
Before my grandchildren arrives on Saturday, I hang out feathers as a path in the garden where they can find their Easter egg filled with sweets.
In the afternoon we all eat from the festive table ending with a traditional Swedish cheesecake that has not much in common with the more well-known cheesecakes outside Sweden. This is a real treat served with cream and strawberry jam.

スウェーデンにおいて、イースターは12世紀ごろから一般的に祝われるようになってきました。
ご存知の通り、イースターはキリスト教徒にとっては重要な祝日の一つで、キリストの復活を祝うものです。
実はスウェーデンは私も含めて、あまり教会に熱心に通わない宗教色の薄い国なのですが、それでもイースターは重要な習わしの一つとなっています。
1970年代ぐらいまではイースター（土曜日）の前日金曜日はすべてのお店が閉まってしまい何もすることがないぐらい、みんな休んで家族で過ごす日でした。
おおよそ100年ぐらい前までは、イースターのある月は最もあわただしく過ぎていく月の一つでした。
祝日を迎えると、皆多くのごちそうを食べる、まるでクリスマスの様な賑わいでした。
伝統的なクリスマスディナーとほぼ同じように、サーモンやニシンの酢漬け、卵や肉を食べます。クリスマスと違うのは、ハムが無く代わりに卵をたくさん食べることです。
イースターの前の木曜日はスウェーデンの民話で、魔女たちが箒にのってとびながら、「Blåkulla」と呼ばれる青い丘へ飛んでいき、イースターの日曜日に戻ってくるという言伝えがあります。
今では子供たちが魔女の仮装をして、近隣の家を回ってキャンディーをもらうという行事があります。
私たちの家族は、10日前に白樺の木の枝を取ってきて花瓶に生けて、新芽が出始めるころに、鳥の羽とカラフルにペイントした卵をつるして、春を楽しみます。
私の孫たちが遊びに来る前に、小道に羽を吊るしてスイーツとイースターエッグを見つけやすいように印をつけます。
そして午後には、イースターの食事の後に伝統的なスウェーデンのチーズケーキを食べます。このチーズケーキは世界的に知られているものとは違って、クリームとイチゴジャムと共に食べます。
